About this publication

Corporate information

Nancymbell is an independent reading project about contemporary books for users in Canada. It is not a publisher, a bookstore, or an author.

What this site is for

The site publishes long notes for users in Canada who are comparing novels, a prairie bibliography, and a book on craft. The pages are meant to be read before a club meeting or a purchase, not used as a shop. Awards, page counts, and ratings that appear are the figures written in those notes.

Nothing on these pages means that Nancymbell is Esi Edugyan, Michelle Good, Emily St. John Mandel, Nancy M. Bell, Carol Shields, HarperCollins Canada, Random House Canada, the CBC, or any festival named in a review. Those names appear only because the source notes discuss them. Nancy M. Bell is the subject of one note. She is not the operator of this site.

Editorial principles

Each guide keeps the facts, limits, and cautions of its source text, including the scores in its tables. We do not add licences, sales ranks, or partnership claims that were not in the material. Ratings in a review are that review’s ratings.

The body is the full note. Questions from a source sit once, in the FAQ on that page. They are not repeated as a second list inside the review.

How the notes are prepared

A short table collects the practical facts already stated in the text. The review that follows is continuous prose. Photographs sit between finished paragraphs, large, across the width of the page. They show lakes, lodges, and people reading. They are not covers, author portraits, or proof of an edition, and titles printed on the pictures are not the name of this publication.

Interactive tools only rearrange facts already printed in the same guide: a theme, a character’s coping, or a tenet of craft. They do not check stock, take payment, or store a reader profile.

Responsibility and limits

Awards, editions, and discussion guides change. A Giller year, a page count, or a narrator named in these pages is a figure from the review, not a live catalogue. Several notes describe violence, abuse, and suicide. Those warnings are part of the reviews. This site does not provide counselling, and it does not replace a facilitator when a club reads a difficult book.

No public contact desk is listed

This publication does not print a street address, telephone number, company registration, or email address, because none was supplied for it. Questions about a book, a right, or an event belong with that publisher, author, or festival. Questions about a page on this site can only be read in the context of the page itself.
